Hurricanes V's Blues

What a weekend ; We travelled to Wellington to take in the Hurricanes V's Blues Super 14 game at the ( Cake-tin ) Westpac Stadium .
On the Friday we saw the Black Caps beat the Aussie's at one day cricket by a record score which put us all in the mood for the rugby the following day .
We all gathered at the Waterloo Hotel home of the Wellington Rugby Supporters were we had the obligatory beer to ease frayed nerves .
Around 6.30 we headed off for the park joining the mass of humanity all heading in the same direction dressed in the Canes colours .
There was the odd Blues fan here and there amongs't the yellow sea of the Hurricanes fans .
The stadium was packed to near capacity and an excited buzz went around the crowd as the Blues took to the field .
Then an almighty roar filled the stadium as the Canes ran on the park amidst a mass of fireworks .
The canes were first to score and the score changed twice more been 10 all at halftime .
Both teams scored during the second half with the Blues leading 22 - 20 with ten minutes to go .
Then the Canes received a penalty which Jimmy Gopperth kicked to put them ahead 23 - 22 .
The canes held on for the win and the crowd erupted in a roar of delight that the Blues had been overcome .
After the game it was back to the Waterloo for drinks and singing which went on till the early hours .
Sunday morning came and an early flight back to Christchurch with grins from ear to ear as on the flight we heard that the Crusaders had lost too the Lions overnight .
On the flight were the All Black coaches Steve Hansen and Wayne Smith with Wayne stopping to have a chat about the game with me ( Nice Chap ) .

Duke of Earl ( The Garage )

The Duke of Earl bar built in my garage was a labour of love .
It features Wellington rugby memorabilia Posters / Signed and framed Wellington Jersey's / Programmes / and heaps of Wellington Rugby and Hurricanes nick knacks .
The garage was an eyesore with broken studs and lights and holes in the weatherboards back in 2006 .
It was damp and musty and dust and grime was everywhere .
I decided with the consent of my partner Charlene to make it into a room where I could store my wellington Rugby items and relax and watch sport on TV .
One of the tilt-a-doors was framed off and broken studs were replaced and new electrical wiring along with plumbing was installed prior to gibbing the walls ; along with Coaxiel cable which was run from the bar through the walls to where a TV was to be mounted on the wall .
The walls were fully insulated along with the ceiling and a bar was added ( Old reception desk from work ) which had a sink added along with taps and hot / cold water .
Carpet throughout and tiles around the bar were next on the agenda and gib stopping followed by painting .
Curtains were put up and final checks were done on the sound systems and DVD which along with the TV all run from the bar .
The official opening was on the 3rd of December 2006 with 50 people attending as we had a marque running off the front of the other tilt-a-door .
Since then spirit racks have been installed along with bar pourers for beer which run off two 30 litre kegs .
Also a 37 LCD Flat screen TV showing Sky TV has been mounted on the wall which we watch the rugby on and the other TV is tuned to the races as having a phone in the garage i have a TAB phone account .
Music DVD's can be played through both TV's along with a stereo with speakers mounted on the wall also .
Presently a toilet is been installed and should be operational by winter .
The bar featured on close up on TV One prior to the Hurricanes V's Crusaders Super 14 final .

Wellington Supporters

We are a group of guy's and girls who live in Canterbury but follow Wellington and the Hurricanes rugby .
We formed a supporters club in 1999 and support all wellington rugby teams when they play in Canterbury .
We drink at Robbies on Riccarton and watch the wellington Lions and the hurricanes games there as they sponsor us with club polo's .
Christian Cullen is our patron and we are fully paid members of the Wellington Rugby Supporters Club Inc est 1965 ; who are based at the Waterloo hotel Wellington .
We also have a bar in my garage where we gather the first sunday of each month for beers and watching rugby on the 37'LCD screen .
The bar is called the Duke of Earl and we have had many fun day's / and nights in there .
We are hoping that one day the Wellington Lions or Hurricanes will visit and will keep on extending them invites .
We travel to wellington at least twice a year to take in a live Wellington game .
